Hello Puchong!
Mic test, 1, 2, 3.
Hey guys! My name is Ed, I’m one of the owners of Le Le Wine Restaurant. I’ve been a home cook and private chef for about 17 years, and here’s a story of why I’ve decided to open my own restaurant.
For the longest time, I’ve always wanted to get into wine tasting. But I’ve never really given it my all. I have been cooking lots of dinner parties at home and being a private chef for family and friends, and through all that I’ve been a cocktail person. I’ve always seen wine as “smooth” or “dry”, or whether it's delicious or “just wine”. I have always found it difficult to select a good wine to pair as I feel I simply lack the knowledge, and I do not know where to start.
It all changed when I met my partner, V. When I cooked for her the first time, she suggested she would find a nice wine to pair with it. She simply asked what is on the menu, and she picked a bottle off from just that. To me, it was fascinating. Is it finally the time to get into the world of wine?
And when I tasted the wine, she walked me through how wine tasting works, what should I look for, what are the flavor profiles, acidity, body, etc. That’s when I realized, this is going to be my new hobby. It’s a brand new world!
Ever since then we have gone to many wine bars and restaurants to try many wines - from classical French Bordeaux wines to new school natural wines aged in a tank. And after doing that for about a year, it still feels like I'm just getting started. At certain points, when I go out without her, I would like to order wine, but there are many places where the sommeliers or waiters do not engage with us. They just stare at us asking what I am looking for, and I thought: “Well I do not know but I shouldn’t embarrass myself in front of my friend. After all, I’m the one who suggested coming to a wine bar.” Some even just suggested wines based on popularity, but didn’t continue to engage further. As you can see, it’s a very huge difference from the experience I’ve had with my partner.
At some point, my mom was suggesting we should open a restaurant or start a F&B business together.
Running an independent restaurant has been a huge dream of mine. Ever since I’ve learned how to cook since I was 12, I’ve always dreamed of opening a restaurant. But I’ve struggled to come to terms with it. Seeing many restaurants rise and fall, the growth of chain restaurants, the booming growth of franchises. Is it really viable to start an independent restaurant still in 2025? Steep rent, rising costs, and many other issues that come with running a restaurant. How am I, a nobody, going to fight with the industry giants?
Anyhow I slept on that idea. And I continued to host dinner parties with friends. At this point, V started joining some of my parties and selected the wines for it. A few of my closest friends went through that experience, and finally started to learn how to taste wine. That’s when I realised - this is still a new experience and a lot of people might not have tried it. How many people out there are interested in wine but are intimidated by the amount of choices? Does everyone know how to pick a bottle before tasting and knowing the difference in taste? Then it all just clicked.
Le Le Wine Restaurant is a project born in passion. We realised we didn’t just want to open a restaurant for the sake of opening one, we wanted to share what I’ve experienced in my wine journey to everyone. We want this place to be a safe but playful environment, and for people of all levels of experiences with wine, especially newcomers.
As I have personally gone through the journey from being stranger to an amateur, I realise the importance of having friendly services, especially with a sommelier who is judgement free and I can chat with, to figuring out which wines to get, what food to pair with, and helping people to finally understand the beauty and intricacies of wines.
We aim to bring a good selection of wines, both classical and natural, and a dedicated seasonal menu to pair with it. No fuss, no pretentiousness, just choose from our sharing dish menu and our sommeliers will guide you through which wine to pick and teach you about wine tasting.
We want to build a community, to educate people and let them know that wine tasting is one of the most fun hobbies you could get into. If you are like me (a year ago), you’ve always been interested in wine tasting, but do not know where to start, we hope you will join our journey, follow us to learn more, and we are looking forward to opening our doors and serving you.
We will have plenty more updates and blog posts to document our journey, so be sure to visit here once in a while and follow us on our social media to see how it all unfolds!
